| Golf Shirts: National Brands & Private Labels
Undoubtedly a wide array of beautiful golf shirts have come on the market over the past half century – most of them short sleeve no-pocket garments but some that are available either with pockets or in long sleeves as well. Such outstanding labels as Izod, Ashworth, Holloway, Arnold Palmer, Blake & Hollister, and Geoffrey Bean come to mind in thinking of some exemplary brands. In this department you'll find a classy selection of name brand fashion and solid color golf shirts - highlighted on individual "brand-focused" pages you can link to from the list in the column on the left. From the On Tour collection, for example, comes style ONT-3617, a fashion golf shirt that features 6 oz. cool mesh 100% ring-spun cotton fabric with contrasting stripe on collar and cuff. This golf shirt is designed with a 3-button placket, half-moon back yolk, brass inlay buttons, and a unique split fabric cuff and moisture-wicking design. Another On Tour garment is the ONT-3613. Called The Wall Street this golf sport shirt is constructed of 100% combed cotton fabric and designed with mini-herringbone pattern. The Finalist, from the Holloway brand, HLY-2415, features a 7.2 oz. 100% cotton mesh interlock with 100% cotton jersey contrasting side panels, and drop tail with twill taped side vents. From the Arnold Palmer line comes APL-8503, a honeycomb birdseye collar pique. This golf shirt is designed with coordinating tipped birdseye collar and cuffs. The shirt is a 6.5 oz. 100% cotton garment and has a three-button placket w/Arnold Palmer signature buttons, and Arnold Palmer logo satin-taped neckband, one-half moon patch inside back yoke for comfort, and split extended tail with taped side vents. One last but great example is the Blake and Hollister style BHR-776, a classy golf shirt that features 6.75 oz., 100% combed ringspun cotton in a herringbone weave, micro-stripe knit collar and welt sleeve cuffs. This shirt also has a three-button clean finished placket with woodtone buttons, tape neck and topstitched shoulders, side-seam construction, and hemmed garment-bottom and side vents. Golf course etiquette includes, among other things, wearing a golf shirt [clean, preferably!], and if the weather elements demand it – an equally fashionable golf windshirt or golf windjacket. Vests or golf sweaters may do as well. Note: One ought not wear such attire as a denim shirt [however good looking and appropriate it may be in other settings!], pants with no cuffs, a button-down oxford with tie, bright non-matching garment colors [although the producers of Caddyshack may take issue here!], sandals, and black socks with white shoes!! This is a just a partial list of “don’ts” – you’d be advised to golf with a pro [well, at least someone who’s been around the course for more than just a few casual rounds] and get the low-down on proper attire for the links, just to be on the safe side! |
